School winter holidays means another WineTots family adventure – this time, from Eden to Addo. Bubbly & birthday celebrations, beach fun & breathtaking wildlife sightings… truly a holiday to remember!

We started our jam-packed Plett tour (for friends from out of town) with a quick hike along the Robberg Hiking Trail and a boat cruise along the stunning Keurbooms River, ending the day with quick sundowners at Sky Villa & a leisurely dinner at Emily Moon, overlooking the meandering Bitou river.

The following day we took a detour through the gorgeous ancient forests of ‘Fiela se Kind’ se wêreld before heading out for our luxuriously relaxing stay at the beautiful Belle Balance Bush Hideout in the Plett Game Reserve, the perfect little getaway for family festivities! We were treated like royalty with private dining alongside the boma and wetland.

No time to explore the Eastern Cape reserves? Explore the magnificence of their African bush (only 20 minutes from Plett) with a 2-hour game drive (only R890 per adult – R590 for SA ID holders) through the foothills of the Tsitsikamma Mountains & witness 3 of the Big 5 in all their glory, alongside an abundance of birdlife & mammals.

Next on the agenda just had to be a visit to the Plett Winelands, with a pitstop at Newstead Lund Family Vineyards, a local favourite, for a quick bubbly tasting in the Crags area (and to buy a bottle of their brilliant bubbly, of course!). The tasting room, warm & welcoming, is open Wednesdays to Sundays (11am-4pm), offering a limited yet superb wine portfolio and food menu.

Our final stop was the ever-enchanting Addo Elephant National Park, South Africa’s third-largest national park and home to the Big 7 (traditional Big 5 plus the Southern right whale & Great white shark in its marine environment). What a magical experience it was to witness and hear the nocturnal mammals in their natural habitats from the chalets and at the Spekboom Hide & to come up close and personal to families of elephants (and tons of adorable little elephant tots) and a brown hyena!

It was then time to head back to Plett and relax... this time keeping an eye out for local mermaids amongst the seals.
